The Good Neighbours’ Club

All summer long the Good Neighbours’ Club has monthly outdoor BBQs for the men. As you can see from the picture, they are very popular.

The GNC Mural

“Since we installed our mural in late 2014, it has received lots of attention. We see people stopping and taking pictures, we’ve seen some on-line, others stop and stare and wonder what is inside and what we do. A few have even stepped inside to ask what we do. It has become unique in the neighbourhood.

The faces represent the men from a variety of backgrounds and professions who found themselves stepping thru our front door, being welcomed and treated with dignity.”

“We are very grateful to have a library that allows the men to sign out books. It honours Major General Bruce Jarvis Legge who was a distinguished Canadian and former Chair of our Board. Bruce Legge served as the Assistant Crown Attorney, as a Pension Advocate and Chairman of the Ontario Workmen’s Compensation Board. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1959, and served as the Chairman of a number of Commissions of Enquiry in Canada and the United States on issues of safety and workers’ compensation.”

A preview for Natural Selection can be found here. And here is a review of the episode The Score.

MotiveTV shared a Behind-the-scenes shot of filming parts of an episode on a Genie lift.

IT CAME FROM THE TWITTERVERSE

PHOTOS

Louis had some special house guests this summer – a pair of mourning doves nested on the front porch and raised a clutch of babies. Jackie shared some photos.

Listen to the sound clip here:

LF – “We had two little birds, mom and dad, and we found out they were two doves, and they would take turns on the nest. They’ve flown out; one of them is right here, in my backyard, because she sees this as her home, and all four of them hang out around the house. And it’s really, really special. I could not believe how fast they grew. And within a week they were gone. Just out there in the world and… Quite amazing.”

Maxim Roy from the Season 2 This Life cast posted a funny photo from a day’s filming in a very hot car. Luckily their sense of humor got them through it. Thanks for sharing, Maxim!

SCREENCAPS

MOTIVE‘s run is almost over! This month we have screencaps from episode 8 in Season 4 – Foreign Relations. Oscar feels the pinch of bureaucracy on the job and Angie gets a new colleague from Interpol!

THE NEW READING SERIES: MR. MUGS – MEET MY PALS

The second monthly reading series is Mr. Mugs – Meet My Pals by Martha Kambeitz, Denise Burns and Josephine Proctor.

You can listen to the book readings on the Reading Series Page.

This month’s section is Chapter 3: A Picnic of Mr. Mugs – Meet My Pals .

Congratulations, Justin!

Justin writes:
“I’ve been in St. Stephen for less than 24 hours and I’m remembering why my childhood, in a small town, was such a great one. Seeing old friends and acquaintances has filled my heart with so much happiness and love. Yeah, I’ve become soft over time….and that’s ok 🙂
This morning I placed 3rd overall in the international run and 1st in the 30-39 division. They gave my trophy to the wrong guy however, realizing their mistake, he came over and insisted that I take the trophy. That’s the type of standup people that St. Stephen produces.”

We camped almost every night, cooked most of our own meals out of a small propane burner and ate a lot of cheese and crackers in our 4×4 Dacia Duster. We were able to experience much of what Iceland has to offer and capture the footage in this video. Enjoy!”

ODDS & ENDS

Ice Bucket Challenge Results

Many of you will remember that Louis participated in the Ice Bucket Challenge to raise awareness for ALS/ Lou Gehrig’s Disease – in the middle of a panel at Dragon Con!

With so many celebrities taking part the search for a cure for ALS has received much-needed funding and several major breakthroughs have been made. Read the exciting news here! It only goes to show that awareness is often the first step to the solution!

The Don S. Davis Memorial Auction

Every year Louis and Ferreira Fest donate some items to be auctioned off for a good cause at the Don S. Davis Memorial Auction on Sunday September 4th at Dragon Con in Atlanta, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Hanover Ballroom, sections C/D/E at 4pm. This year’s proceeds benefit a cause that is near and dear to our hearts – the fight to end homelessness. The funds raised will go to The Atlanta Center for Self Sufficiency (ACSS).

The ACSS’s mission is to empower homeless individuals to achieve self-sufficiency and lead the fight in breaking the cycle of homelessness in Greater Atlanta and beyond by providing a hand up – not a hand out.

This year we’re contributing four truly unique items, so please come and bid high!

Louis is providing an original Stargate watch – a rare and valuable item that was given to Stargate cast members on the 10th anniversary of Stargate SG-1. Fewer than 1000 exist. Agi donated Stargate Universe DVDs, and our friend Amanda Alexander kindly autographed them, along with directors Andy Mikita and Brad Wright. Like every year, Louis autographed a photo from the Stargate Universe days. It has been framed for safety and ease of display. Here’s your chance to own one!

And that, dear Friends, is about it for this month! Thanks for visiting often! Be sure to follow us on Twitter for all the Louis news you can handle and TV reminders!
