Haven Toronto
Haven Toronto is the city’s only daytime shelter for elder homeless men, but they do so much more than just provide a safe indoor space: they serve healthy meals, provide showers and clothing and basic medical care. They are also tireless advocates for affordable housing and elder rights.

Walktober has begun!

Stargate Universe
After a decade the show is still making headlines. A recent interview with Joseph Mallozzi, one of its producers, has brought the position of the saga within the franchise into a new light.
Louis played Colonel Everett Young, the tragic and deeply conflicted commander of the Destiny. The series also starred our friends Bradley Stryker, Peter Kelamis, Jennifer Spence, Patrick Gilmore and Alaina Huffman.

Aftermath
Remembering Anne Heche, 1969-2022
Anne Celeste Heche, the 53-year-old Emmy Award-nominee actress, has died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. On Friday, August 12th, the doctors established that she was brain dead, but still on life support in anticipation of organ donations. On Sunday, August 14th, a recipient was found for a donation, and the life support was disconnected.
Louis worked with Anne Heche on the short-lived series Aftermath. While Anne played one of the main characters, Karen Copeland, the mother of the family who experiences the end of the world as we know it, Louis voiced the character of Bob ‘Moondog’ Black, a mysterious radio personality who remained on air and seemed to know what was going on. The character appeared in the final two episodes of the series, Now That We Talk Of Dying and Whispers Of Immortality.
As mentioned above, Anne saved lives even in her passing because she was an organ donor. Becoming an organ donor is easy – in the US you simply choose the status when you apply for or renew your driver’s license, or you can register online at organdonor.gov. You can do a simple web search for your country’s policies if you live elsewhere. Thousands of people of all ages die because a suitable organ match could not be found, while so many are simply buried or cremated. If you’re hesitant or don’t know much about the process, please educate yourself and make the decision to become a donor today.

This month we have 419 screen caps from the series Durham County – Season 1, episode 3 Divide and Conquer. Louis plays one of his creepiest roles to date, the deeply conflicted Ray Prager. Our friend Greyston Holt plays Louis’ character’s son, Ray Jr.
Plot Summary:
Mike Sweeney finds it extremely difficult to hide an awful secret. Ray crosses paths with a murderer and another woman is killed.

THE 4th READING SERIES: MR. MUGS – ROCKETS AWAY!
The fourth monthly reading series continues in Mr. Mugs – Rockets Away! by Martha Kambeitz and Denise Burns.
Unlike previous readers, this volume was published as a hardcover book within the Level 3 series of the Mr. Mugs readers. It was originally released in 1968. The Mr. Mugs books have been out of print for many years but occasionally you can find them on eBay, Amazon Marketplace or various other antique book dealers.
Louis credits the Mr. Mugs books series with helping him to learn English at a very young age.

them come back, Pat?” asked Mother.
“Oh, I hope so,” answered Pat.
“He did, Pat, for he was
a good man,” said Mother.
Now Lyo and Bijou are sorry
they wanted to go away.
And when they are told to do
something, they do it.
Pat got ready for bed.
He looked out the window.
There was the clubhouse tree.
Somewhere up there was a pretty nest.
He looked around the room.
He thought of Mother and Daddy
and the boys.
“It’s good to be home,” he thought.
He liked his soft bed.
“I’m going to be a good boy…”
Pat was asleep.

Franco Lo Presti
Franco Lo Presti was interviewed about 14 Love Letters, his recent film on the Hallmark Channel. Here is a short excerpt:
“Louis Ferreira, who played my father in ‘Bad Blood’ has become my mentor in life and he is like a second father to me,” he said. “I made so many wonderful, life-lasting connections on that show. We became a family.”

Karyn Mott
Karyn had an interview published, talking about one of her specialties – coaching intimacy onscreen.
Intimacy in film can be very traumatic for actors who do not receive proper guidance; intimacy directors provide them with tools and actions to deal with any issues caused by having to act out intimate scenes in front of the camera or on stage.
Karyn writes:

Justin Breault
Justin is a personal trainer and a stunt performer in the Vancouver film industry. He recently had a stunt role in the series Peacemaker, which airs on HBO Max.

Amanda Alexander
Amanda writes:
“I start a new show called So Help Me Todd next week. Season 1! Let’s hope it’s a hit!”
We’ll keep our fingers crossed! For film industry people like Amanda a sudden show cancellation is a financial disaster. Contracts are often signed well ahead of filming, and if the show is cancelled they are essentially jobless until a new round of shows starts production. A hit show renewal means job security for the near future. Best wishes to our resident script supervisor!

House of Chains is inspired by the disturbing true story of a troubled married couple who imprisoned their six children within their home due to an intense religious ideology. It tells the story of a seemingly normal, suburban family whose dark secrets remained hidden for years. Following their own set of strict religious beliefs, parents Laura (Suvari) and Tye (Holt) keep their children separated from the outside world. As the children grow older and begin to ask questions, Laura and Tye become increasingly authoritarian, leading them down a path of child abuse, neglect and imprisonment. In order to keep their younger siblings safe and to free themselves from their parents the older children band together and risk an escape to alert authorities and save their family.

To mark the 25th anniversary of Stargate SG-1, Science Museum Director Roger Highfield talks to Stargate advisor, Mika McKinnon.
“You get more interesting stories when you have rules that you have to work within – it’s not fun if you can always just magic your way out of a situation and there’s no tension. We were incredibly consistent, not only using real wormhole science but a specific type. Every time we had a new episode, I would go and check if there were any new relevant physics papers. I had about 700 papers by the time we finished.”

An Amish Sin, which traces the story of an Amish teen trying to escape her 18th century lifestyle, will premiere October 29. Rachel (Ratzlaff) is an Amish teen who refuses to obey her parents’ command that she marry the man who abused her as a child. When she attempts to run away, she is caught and sent to a “rehab” for Amish girls who don’t follow the rules. Managing to escape from the facility, she makes her way to a neighboring city.

Animal Kingdom airs Sundays at 9pm on TNT. The series centers on 17-year-old Joshua “J” Cody who, after the death of his mother, moves in with his estranged relatives, the Codys, who run a criminal family enterprise set in Oceanside, California that’s governed by the respected matriarch Janine “Smurf” Cody.
SO BERRY NUTRITIOUS
Our friend (and frequent Louis photo supplier) Jackie has an Instagram feed for sharing her culinary creations. Every month she will contribute a recipe you can all try out, knowing that the result will be both nutritious and delicious!
Vegetable Stew
“Nothing like a hearty vegetable stew, the ultimate comfort food! Happy cooking, friends!”
Ingredients:
1/2 small red onion, diced
2 large garlic cloves, minced
2 celery sticks, small dice
2 cups white or brown mushrooms, sliced
6 carrots, sliced
1 cup pees
2 large yellow potatoes, sliced into cubes
1/2 cup red wine
1/3 cup tomato paste
1 carton of vegetable broth
1 tsp parsley, oregano, basil, garlic powder and mixed Italian.
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tbsp grapeseed oil
Method:
Heat a large pot on medium and add grapeseed oil.
Once hot, add onions and sweat for 5-7 mins. Add garlic and celery and stir. Cook for 5 minutes.
Add your mushrooms and cook on medium high until the natural juices are released.
Add all of your veggies along with vegetable broth, wine and tomato paste. Stir.
Add all of your spices, stir and bring to a boil.
Lower to simmer and cover for an hour or until vegetables are cooked through.
Taste and add salt and pepper to taste.
Serve and enjoy!

Every month Vancouver artist Nicole Pilich shares one of her henna creations with Ferreira Fest. And if you find yourself in Vancouver visit her studio and treat yourself to some Healing Body Art made just for you.
This month Nicole writes:
“My hairdresser is retired and only does a few people ( friends) now and she and I have worked out an exchange. She styles my hair and I give her a temporary tattoo.
She had me work on her twice this summer. Once for a backyard party and once for a wedding. Both times to cover her veins on her shin.
We used Jagua to give her a black color.”
