MOTIVE

MOTIVE finally returns to the US!

By now you may have heard the good news that MOTIVE was picked up by USA Network.
Season 3 will start airing on Friday nights at 10/ 9c on April 1st (no joke).

Seasons 1 and 2 are available to watch online on the official USA Network MOTIVE site.

Visit the Oscar Vega character page!

Meanwhile Season 4 will start airing in Canada on Tuesday March 22 on CTV. You can find Preview interviews on the CTV MOTIVE site. As usual, the videos are geofenced, meaning you can only watch them in Canada. There’s also a printed interview with Brendan Penny further down the page.

In the coming days there will surely be a flood of press releases and interviews about the 4th and final season of the show. The same excellent interview with the MOTIVE cast, which includes an extensive Oscar Vega character analysis by Louis, can be found at The Province and The Vancouver Sun. The show also makes this week’s “must watch” list in The Toronto Sun.

  Louis says:

“The book I used for Vega was The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. It’s just four simple agreements: ‘Don’t take anything personally, be impeccable with your word, always do your best, and don’t make assumptions.’ Let’s face it: Most dramas base themselves on conflict. We’ve been on for four years and we have these two cops (Flynn and Vega) getting along and respecting each other. And that in itself is something we’re very proud of. It may not be as dynamic as some of the other shows, but there’s something about that sensibility, about how we should talk to each other and respect each other. We barely draw our weapons. Motive is about people and their motives, the psychology of what’s going and what’s happening inside.”
Read the rest here. You will also find great quotes from our friend and show runner Dennis Heaton!

Here’s a great picture of the MOTIVE cast and crew that was shared widely on social media.

With a successful 4 year run, high ratings, a large US market pickup and no other obvious problems it is quite a mystery why the show was cancelled – even before Season 4 started to air. A well thought-out article tries to make sense of it all and still comes up with no compelling reasons. Check it out at Metro News and The Chronicle Herald.

And in very remotely related news: the newest addition to Sweden’s royal family is Prince Oscar. Congrats to the proud parents!

BATES MOTEL

Last week Louis had a very small role in two Season 4 episodes of the A&E series Bates Motel. The series, a prequel to Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 film Psycho (based on Robert Bloch’s novel of the same name), depicts the lives of Norman Bates and his mother Norma prior to the events portrayed in the film, albeit in a different fictional town (White Pine Bay, Oregon, as opposed to the film’s Fairvale, California) and in a modern setting.

Louis’ two episodes (A Danger To Himself And Others and Goodnight Mother) are available on the A&E website until mid-April so be sure to watch them before they disappear!). Louis plays Dr Guynan, a surgeon who specializes in lung transplants.

Scroll down for some screencaps of both episodes!

Louis kindly shared some thoughts on his part.

Listen to the sound clip here:

FF – I’m so excited, you were on Bates Motel !

LF – Well, for two seconds. I did one scene. It was because my Motive schedule was so light that I was like, get me anything else. So we got me a scene, I play a doctor and it was actually kind of a weird thing because they wanted me to be this professional surgeon and I showed up and I was like, you want me to do what? Especially with certain kind of things you gotta practice a bit.

FF – Right, right.

LF – So the first couple hours were awkward. But then it became okay.

Transcript by Casey.

THIS LIFE

Great news – This Life has been picked up for a second season by CBC and Louis will be reprising his role as David Crawley, the prodigal dad who returns to his family after a long absence. Filming will begin within the next few months – we’ll keep you updated.

Look for more screencaps from Season 1 in an upcoming Ferreira Fest!

AN INTERVIEW WITH JUSTIN BREAULT

This month we have an interview with Justin Breault (pronounced “Bro”) who is a good friend of Louis and was also an executive producer for Through The Pane.

Recently Justin won a trip for two to Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of Shakespeare, to take in some of the commemorative events honoring him on the 400th anniversary of his passing.  On April 24th there will be a Shakespeare half-marathon which Justin and his dad Pierre will be running to help raise funds for the Innocence Lost Foundation.

Read the entire interview and more on Justin’s Page!

Dennis also moderated the Writers Guild of Canada‘s 25th anniversary event on February 26th.

There are some great quotes from Dennis in the Season 4 press release for MOTIVE.
Dennis says:

“What was interesting was that in season two we were dealing with a case that took place in the past and was a secret, while season three we dealt with an investigation that was ongoing and impressing upon their lives in real time,” Heaton says. “Getting to season four I felt we’d done both kinds of investigative stories. What I was more interested in looking at, after finding the theme of change, I wanted to spend more time dealing with the personal lives of the characters.”

HEALING BODY ART

Every month Ferreira Fest features a new example of our friend Nicole Pilich’s henna creations. Nicole designed the cover for this year’s birthday book. Please be sure to visit her website at http://healingbodyart.com/. And if you find yourself in Vancouver, stop by at her store and enjoy her craft with a henna painting!

Nicole writes:

This is a pregnant belly I designed today. I was surrounded by the momma’s loving friends and family while I decorated her blossoming belly. Her baby was stretching out a bit and moving gently like most babies do while I henna the belly. Traditionally, bellies are not decorated in the Middle East, this is something which evolved over in North America. I love doing pre-natal henna!

Thanks for sharing, Nicole, and best wishes to the mom-to-be and baby!

Ferreira Fest: Behind The Scenes

Have you ever wondered where all of our fabulous transcripts are coming from?

We strive to be all-inclusive here at Ferreira Fest, and so we always have two versions of our interviews: an audio file for our visually impaired friends, and a typed edition for our members who have trouble hearing.

It all starts with an audio file that goes through multiple edits and eventually it ends up with Casey who faithfully transcribes every word in the sound clip. If you’ve ever had to transcribe an audio interview you have an idea of how monumental a task this really is!

Fortunately, Casey has a very dedicated helper who is always ready to lend moral and fuzzy support: Paco the German Shepherd. Here is a photo of the Dream Team in action, with Paco proofreading a paragraph:

Please join us in thanking the two of them for their dedication and tenacity in transcribing all of our interview sound files! Want to thank them in person? Email Casey.

And that, dear Friends, is about it for this month! Thanks for visiting often! Be sure to follow us on Twitter for all the Louis news you can handle!

If you have comments, questions or suggestions, there are many ways to make your voice heard:

1. Visit the Forum and start a discussion or participate in an existing one. Posting is easy and hassle-free, and nobody there will send you spam or unwanted emails.

2. Leave a note in the Guestbook. Guestbook notes will get a response via email if available.

3. Contact or any other staff member. Everyone is listed on the Contact Page. If you have any questions that you need answered, email is the way to go!

We are always looking for volunteers who want to contribute, and there are perks associated with being a correspondent or staff member!

Please remember: all content of Ferreira Fest and indeed this entire website is copyright protected. That’s what the note on the bottom of each page says. It means that you should never re-post anything you find here elsewhere. If you absolutely must do so please contact first so we can work things out. We all work for free here, and we all work very hard, and it’s just not fair if you steal stuff and claim it as your own. Your mom/ dad/ parental unit/ teacher already told you as much. Please play by the rules.

We hope to see you all next month!
